A listserv is an e-mail based communication tool that offers its members the opportunity to post suggestions or questions to a large number of people at the same time. When you submit a question or a comment to a subject that you want to share to the listserv, your submission is distributed to all of the other people on that list. The delivery method of the posts can be in immediate (individual) or in digest format. With immediate format you will get each post as it is released by the list manager, and with digest format a daily accumulation of messages will be grouped together in one e-mail.
