Consumer printer technology has advanced significantly over the past decade, and continues to grow as we continue on in the new millenium. The printers now available to the consumer market include photo printers, document printers, a combination of the former and latter, as well as multipurpose printers that include copy and fax functions. The two main printer types are the inkjet and the laser printer. An inkjet printer uses ink cartridges which prints out the documents line by line. They tend to be slower but are better for graphics. Laser printers, which are more common in offices, use high speed printing for more efficiency and economy. These tend to show finer results with text.
